Strakka Racing gear up for 2012 LMP1 assault on WEC & Le Mans…
As part of the build programme for the new Honda HPD ARX-03a LMP1, Strakka Racing enlisted REAL to provide seat infill solutions to the three drivers. Being involved from an early stage meant the REAL was able to work alongside the team and drivers to ensure all facets of driver position was measured.
REAL MD, Vaughan Cartwright said: “Strakka Racing are a great team – professional and determined. We were involved with their LMP2 campaign and of course are delighted that we can provide improved seat insert technologies to Strakka Racing for 2012. When considering the requirements of Endurance Sportscar Racing and multiple driver changes, we approach the entire seat insert and covering process in a different perspective to that of single-seater racing. Working with Strakka Racing’s three drivers; Nick Leventis, Jonny Kane, & Danny Watts is a real pleasure and we look forward to following what will be an exciting year of Sportscar racing.
Piers Phillips, Team Manager & Technical Director added: We looked no further than REAL when considering our requirements for seat insert solutions for the team. Vaughan’s professional approach and understanding of our needs and expectations is first-rate and just what we require.” It is very difficult to achieve driver comfort within a sports racing car as each driver usually has to compromise on something in order to accommodate the other two – this necessitates a different approach to the entire process – having Vaughan involved from the initial stages ensured we could accommodate the drivers needs individually and collectively.”
Strakka Racing scored a sensational top 10 finish on the famous 12 Hours of Sebring, after its new Honda Performance Development ARX-03a performed faultlessly on its race debut. Driven by Nick Leventis, Jonny Kane and Danny Watts, a characteristically determined performance on its US debut saw the Silverstone-based team score points in the FIA World Endurance Championship, as it finished 4th in LMP1 and 2nd in the Privateers’ category.
